Show Twenty-fifth Presentation Of "The Messiah" Planned The B.A.C. and Cedar City will open the Christmas holiday season sea-son Sunday, December 15 with Handels "Tfs Messiah". This will be the twenty-fifth performance Cedar Ce-dar City has enjoyed since the first presentation twenty-two years ago. At that time the tabernacle choir college choruses and orchestra gave remarkably fine performances. Besides Be-sides three presentations at Cedar City that year, through the help of the local Chamber of Commerce, which furnished transportation, Parowan and Hurricane were able to enjoy the famous oratorio. It was estimated that over 5,000 people peo-ple heard it the first year. In all these years there have been twenty-three soloists, all local people,, peo-ple,, who have performed In a creditable cred-itable manner. So well have these singers and orchestra learned the great work, that the performance three years ago was given in a masterful mas-terful fashion with but two re- hear-sals, hear-sals, and that is a great tribute, to the singers, orchestra and directors. This year, the chorus will number num-ber around 150 splendid voices and an orchestra of 45, and the presentation presen-tation promises to be equal to any previous performance in every respect. re-spect. Prof. W. H. Manning, who will conduct his 30th performance this year, is most enthusiastic in his praise for the response given by members of the Master Singers, male chorus, the members of the old Choral Society and the enthusiastic choral groups and orchestra of the College. Especially does he speak In glowing tribute of his associate, Prof, R. l Halverson who has for 18 years prepared remarkably good orchestras with his responsive students, stud-ents, and Mrs. Bernella Jones and Prank Van Cott who have played the piano and organ repeatedly. A combined rehearsal of otches-tra otches-tra and chorus wlil be held in the Third ward chapel next Sunday at p. m. and all singers familiar with "The Messiah" are urged to be present. |
