Show Woman's Clubs Poem Contest Planned ' Mrs. Stanley F. Bennett, of Pro-vo, Pro-vo, chairman of poetry, Utah Federation Fed-eration of Womens Clubs, announces announ-ces the poetry contest for members of all clubs of the Utah Federation. Federa-tion. The winner of the Utah contest con-test will be eligible to enter the General Federation of Womens Clubs contest. The 1948 poetry contest prize of fifty dollars offered by Mrs. LaFell Dickenson, O.F.W.C. president, was awarded at the Chicago convention to Mrs V'eneta L. Nlelson of Logan, Utah, for her poem, "Step Down Babel" Honorable mention was given gi-ven Mrs. Vesta P. Crawford of Salt Lake City, Utah for the poem, "Where the Oram, la Yellow." 121 poems were received by the General Federation from 35 states and the District of Columbia. Following Fol-lowing are the Contest Rules: 1. The contest Is open to any member of Utah Federation of Womens Wo-mens Clubs. 2. Each contestant may enter two poems. 3. Poems must not exceed forty-two forty-two (42) lines. 4. Subject - Sonnets pertaining to Utah. 5. Send three copies of each poem submitted. 6.. Each manuscript must be accompanied ac-companied by a plain, sealed envelope, en-velope, containing the writers name and address, name of club to which she belonrs r 1 titles of poems. 7. Poems wUl not be returned. 8. Poems must not have appeared In print. 9. Manuscripts must t postmarked postmark-ed before midnight, January 30th, 1947. 10. Address poems to Mrs. Stanley Stan-ley F. Bennett, 782 North 2nd East Provo, Utah. Judges will be announced later. Winners will be announced and prizes priz-es awarded at the Spring convention, conven-tion, 1947. |
