Show B. A. C. BALL TEAM WINS FROM DDOE dn Tie Played OfT at Heaver Wed nesday Night, and Proves an Exciting Game. AGGIES WIN ON SCORE OF ONLY 18 TO 16 POINTS Was Anybody's Game to the Last-Local Last-Local Boys Excelled In Team Work, but Poor on Kaiikets. The tie which existed between the Branch Agricultural College basket ball team, of this city, and the fivi from the Dixie High school at St George, for the championship of tin-south tin-south half of the Southern Division was played off at Beaver last Wednes day night, in the Beaver opera house Some four or five car loads of rooters accompanied the team from Cedar City, and St. George had a fair rep resentation of spectators at the game While it was supposed to he a neutral neu-tral floor, and precaution had been taken to divide the students from tin Murdock school in their r,entiment between the contending teams, yet there was no question in the mind of anyone as to which school had the predominance of sympathy. Earl good play on the part of the Dixii team was cheered to the echo, whil the star plays of the B. A. C. tean I received little more than the appro bation of the rooters from this plac ' The match was an netting one from start to finish. The B. A. C. led oft with some six or seven straight tallic before the Dixie team woke up am began to take the game seriously Then the Aggies appeared to get "fussed" and then the Academy boy. made a succession of good pitches, am' by the end of the first half the scon stood 10 to 10 for the respective teams The last half ww nip and tuck frorr i . K- the time the gun sounded to start play until it spoke again at the finis1 of the game. First the B. A. C. wouh be one or two joints ahead, then the would be even; then the Aggies WOttli core another point or twj, and i' happened that they were t.vo point? ahead when time was called. The B. A. C. boys were far super ior to their antagonists in team work and had possession of the ball oasi' two-thirds of the time; but '.hey w n decidedly poor on basket shootine One reason for this was that they took too many chances on long shots am' gallery stuff, which resulted in tin ball going into the hands of their op ponents, without scoring them an baskets. Both team9 were fast, but the Dixie lads appeared to have the advantage in the matter of basket hooting. They had somewhat the advantage on fouls, and made more baskets from the foul line. The game resulted in the B. A. C winning the championship of tin , south half of the Southern Division and tonight they will play the Hinck ley academy te;im at Milford to doch'i the championship of the Southern division. di-vision. An attempt was made to obtain ob-tain a special car from Lund to Mil ford, about one hundred rooters having hav-ing expressed their desire to witnosi the game. But inasmuch as the Rail road company was unable to provide the special service, and the weathei turning off so extremely cold, the mu jority gave up the trip. Still, several have gone, and will contribute theii moral support to the team. If the local players will keep then heads and be careful about throwinc away their advantage on long thota they will have a very good chance of winning state championship honors again this year. The team is especially espec-ially strong this year in the:r guards but the forwards appear a li'.tle wea': Most of the material composing tlr team this year, however, is new, be ing from the First Year class an d the indications are most in.'ouragin, for a crack team next year. |
