Show THE RABBIT PEST. THE jack rabbit pest, which is always more or less in evidence in this part of the country, has assumed as-sumed proportions tho present season which makes it most serious, and suggests sug-gests that some cognizance of the situation should be taken by the coun-t coun-t yand state. Comparatively fow of the settlers on now land arc in a position to fenco their forms with rabbit-tight fence, and this seems to bo tho only way for them to protect their crops and realize any returns upon their labor. Bounty has been paid for the killing' of the coyotes, which are the only friend tho farmer had in the matter of protection against the rabbits, in the interest of the sheep men. Now it ought to bo up to the law-makers and county commissioners com-missioners to find some menas of protecting pro-tecting the farmers against the rabbits rab-bits which are rapidly becoming more numerous. It occurs to us that there ought to bo some department; of tho state machinery, of the U. S. Department of Agriculture or the Extension Division of tho Agricultural College, whose business should be to investigate investi-gate and devise ways and means of disposing of the rabbits. We have read of tho inocculation of the rabbits rab-bits in certain parts of the country in the past with some communicable fatal disease that has spread and achieved ac-hieved wonderful results in the disposition dis-position of the rabbits. It is quite possible that something of this kind could be employed here with good results, re-sults, ft would certainly be a Godsend God-send to many of the residents of Iron county, and wo commend the matter to the attention of the proper officials. |
