Show WHERE SMALL IT HE? AVERY interesting situation has arisen in connection with the pro- H jected county fair, which for Home H reason not fully explained, it has been H taken for jrranted is to be held in H I'arowan, notwithstanding the fact B thnt the fair is supposed to alternate B between Cedar City and Parowan, and B the Inst fair was held at the county B feat (own. The appropriation of $00 B for the coui tf fair this year was au- ihorized by the county commissioners IB on the rUqusst of a committee of Par- BB owan people, it being represented to H the commitU-e that Cedar City was BB represented on the general rommit'tee BJ in the person of Mr. John P. Fuller, BJi and that it had been amicably decided to hold the fair in Parowan. It now develops that Mr. Fuller was never BJ notified of any such appointment and bad no knowledge of what was being BJj done. There was no fair held in this BJ county Inst year, for the reason that the Commissioners declined to make BJE an appropriation for the same, hold- BJ ing that on aeeohnt of the war, the BJ shortage of bolp on the farms, and BM the be.fvy financial drains on the country it would be unwise. They did, however, appropriate $250 to pay the interest on an obligation assumed by H Cedar City people in providing fair 1 in-mih.l -it ' In - ii'-ic- litlt Uittl lllt flil- m pi "" --.., ....... - . H tinct proviso that there was to be no fair held in 1018. The Cedar City Committee, which went through these Bm negotiations last year stoutly assert H that they did not waive their right Bj to the fnir this year, but that on the H contrary it was definitely understood H by them that we were not to lose our BJ turn at the fair as a result of the ac- I tion of the commissioners. H The matter was brought to the at- H tention of the comissioners at their BJ last meeting, and resulted in the ap- BJ pointment of a county committee to BJ eerve for two years, and this commit- BJ tee will decido where the fair is to be BJ held. Had the southern end of the BJ county been given equitable repreen- BJ tation on this committee, in propor- BJ tion to population, theru would be no BJ question as to where the fair would BJ be held this year; but for some reason BJ this element has not been considered, I apparently, for Enoch is left without Bj representation on the committee, and Cedar City has only an equal number I of members with Parowan. As each committeeman is likely to vote the I fair to the town nearest him, disre-B disre-B gardim; the justice of the question, B the wliere.ibouts of the fair is very much undecided, The committee met B and discussed the queetion last Sat- B urdny and buing unable to reach a B decision, adjourned to May 17th. In the mean time Cedar Cily and the fl aouthern end of the ounty will take BJ steps to let the facts all be known, B and a full statement bus been prom- B isel The Record for next week. i |
