Show iaj H STATE'S POLITICAL ASPECT. ' POLITICS in "the state generally arc beginning to move towards the centerof the stage, and it is H very evident that as the season advances this is goinj H to be one of the weightiest questions before the peo- H pie of Utah for the present season. In may quarters B there is a feeling of dissatisfaction over conditions as H they have existed in the past, not only on the part of Hj democrats, but republicans, as well, who have come VMS to recognize that there has been a "machine" in their jH party in the past, and this machine has to all appear- JS aiices sold out the people's' intcrotfK to the liquor and Ml oilier corrupt factions, quite possibly for campaign iftSj revenues. However this may be, the "young repub- $89 lioaus" have derided to have more to say on the ques hajw lion of politics and policies withm the party in the gm iuture, and to help to clean up anything that bavors of Mm graft of unwholesome politics. They are determined mE , that when the legislature meets again that the leaders lU ' 6'f theparty shall be in no way obligated to or be- Vv '"iholdcn upon thesaloon clement; B' v ' Prohibition goes this time and no side-tracking. m Whcir the' smoke" clears away, of which there won't be 1 very mtidi, Utah will be a bed-rock' prohibition state, Bl HH 's and that, too, by the.plaui and unmistakable voice of the people, backed up by every necessary executive and legislative act required to make it the unquestioned policy of the pcopli df the state. The "whiskey republicans," if there is any such quantity, arc now beginning to see the writing on the wall and arc anxious to climb into the prohibition republicans' band-wagon", hoping to get a little grace and a chance for office by so doing. It is also stated on good authority that the old line and progressive wings of the republican party arc getting together on some common grolind on which both can stand4 and that except for a few sore heads of the "Kinky," "Curly," "Fussy" and Spry variety, they will present a solid front to the opposition; and these one time dictators and traders will wake up and find, that they arc no longer controling the destinies of the republican party in Utah, but that a cleaner as well as a more progressive clement holds the reins. Just who the standard bearers will be in the coming com-ing state'eampaign is not known, but there are a number num-ber of good, clean, candidates being talked of, and the outlying districts should stand together and sec that they get fair representation according to population popula-tion in the variaus branches of government. Some of our most capable and stalwart officials have come up from the ranks, and a number have hailed from the remote rurahdistricts, wb'mh goes to show that wc have just as brainy and efficient men as can be produced pro-duced in the congested cities, and wc should stand together and insist upon proportionate recognition. Now is the time to be thinking of the available material for the state ticket and to be getting our " fences'' in order. |
