Show H BUYING IN HOME TOWN IS ECONOMY. TIE following summary of the importance of trading with the home merchants is by E. M. H Trowern, secretary of Retail Merchants' Asso- H ciation of Canada. It contains many pertinent facts H and is worth the while of every one in Cedar City and H Iron county to peruse it : M If a city or town is (rood enough to live in, and good H t luiui'li to take n salary from, it should he good enough H to buy in. If the teachers, the preachers, the professors, H the firemen, the policemen and the civic servants want in- H creased salaries, the most direct route to bring about that m desired end is to keep the money circulating in the home H town. If all the money in Canada ever got Into the hands H of one or two men, business in general would stagnate. M The proper ami healthy condition is to have money cir- m culated so that everyone will, through his or her industry H get some of it. M The first expectation of a producer is to be able to sell j B his crop after he has grown it. To sell it he must have B customers, with money, who are able to buy it. The fur B ther the producer is away from the consumer the more the BBJ transportation costs. Farms near thriving towns and BBl cities are more valuable than those which are isolated in M the backwoods. The best way to make the backwoods M farms valuable is to buy in the cities and towns near them. H CO-OPERATION COUNTS M Prosperous cities and towns are built up through i B proper co-operation between retail merchants and their BBa customers. They must work together. The customer re-1 B quires the retail merchant and the retail merchant requires ' HBl the customer. If customers send all their money away B to mail order houses for staple goods and expect the corner I BBa store to live on the sale of lamp chimneys, eggs and coal M oil they will awaken some day to find the little store closed. BBJ Goods when you want them and where you want them arc BBl worth more than goods thohsanda of miles away. Ten cents' M worth of toothache gum in the corner drug store in the M home town is worth more to a suffering child with an M aching tooth than ten tons of the same article in Hong M Kong, China. M A DOUBLE MISSION H Retail merchants endeavor to locate in places where M they are required. They have a double mission to per- I H form; they buy goods to suit their customers and they; M Mpsaet to make a living by selling and caring for them. , H The better service a retail merchant gives his customers M the better business he should receive in return. The BBl --rvue should be mutual anil the customer should be B iually anxious to see that the retail stores in his city or BB town succeed. H The statement that by buying through mail order H houses you are saving the middleman's profit on all you B buy is only a glaring deception, to say nothing whatever H about the question of luck of loyalty to your home town. H Let us follow the process and see if less labor is requred. H A person living in a town, and whose position depends upon H the prosperity of the town, reecives a catalogue. In order!
