Show BBM (5) H i A BOMB IN THE MAKING H M TH HAT certain "interests" in Salt Lake City have H been engaged in systematically "knocking" H the Arrowhead Trail to southern California, has H been well known for some time, but just who and H what these interests were and their reasons for H doing so have been somt what of a problem, but H one that is being fast solved by information being H collected by friends of this route A little later. H when the time gets fully ripe, a bomb is going to H be exploded among this gang of traitors to their H own state by the publication of 8 number of sworn Hj affidavits, which will show the pressure brought H to bear on tourists to induce them to choose the H Lincoln Highway via Ely, Nav. Club officials, p1- H iticians, garage owners and even some of the news H papers are implicated in the traitorous conduct, H and when the time comes will fee the weight of H the vote and patronage of the southern counties H of the slate, which are being thus unfairly dealt H H The attitude of the Salt Lake people is inllu- H enced entirely by selfish motives. The people of H Ely art good spenders and it is thought to incre i.;, H the How of cash from this source to Salt Lake H City by boosting for the California highway that H runs through the Nevada town. H In order to convince the traveler that the Lin- H coin Highway is a better route to California than H the Arrowhead Trail, all kinds of rediculous state- H ments are made -that the southern route is ex- H eessively hut and through a great sand desert, H almost impassible and requiring the carrying of Hi a barrel of water on one's car; that the road is H9 bad as a whole, and that it is next to impossible HI to get through. Tourists who have been filled up H with this sort of dope- have been surprised leyond Jm measure at the condition of the Trail, which they Ray is title short of a boulevard from Salt Lake City to St. George, and with the exception of a few short stretches that are shortly to be improved, im-proved, all the way through to California. When the facts are bared that are now being i accumulated, the Salt Lakers engaged in this sort ! of knocking of their own state, for the sake of small business advantages of a ptinly personal nature, will be referred to by name and busines B, ! and will receive a little more publicity than they will relish. If they feel it their duty to get out and knock their own state, they might, at 1 confine themselves to the truth, and not. state such rediculous untruths as are attributed to them by-tourists by-tourists swearing to affidavits recently. As a matter of fact the Arrowhead Trail is a better and shorter route to California than the Lincoln Highway, and is almost universally admitted ad-mitted to 'be such by tourists familiar with both roads. The bad spots are gradually being eliminated, elim-inated, and when the program of improvements now arranged for is carried out, it will be a first-class first-class auto highway. If these Salt Lake business men and politicians were to get in and help boost this program of improvenment of a road which extends the entire length of their state, instead of trying to divert the travel off to one side, thev would reflect much more credit on themselves, and would be working to their own ultimate advantage. advan-tage. If they presist in their present course they will wake up directly and find themselves in the position of the calf that left its mother to follow a steer out of the country. A hint to the wise is sufficient. |
