Show INCREASING SUPPLY OF CULINARY WATER; Supervisor leigh With Force of Men In Developing nnd Bringing in Many Small Springs. Supervisor S. F. Leigh was down from the mountain yesterday afternoon. after-noon. With a force of men he has spent the past week or ten days at the source of the city water supply bringing in new springs, developing larger flows from some springs already al-ready in use, and otherwise increasing and improving the water supply in the city system. Wednesday night an increase of approximately 20 gallons gal-lons per minute at this, the lowest stage of the springs, was turned into the head of the system. The work is being continued by the Supervisor's department, and shortly additional small springs will be brot in to increase the city's supply. Unfortunately Un-fortunately there are no large springs available In this locality, so small I springs and seeps have to be devel- oped and connected up with the city's I system. This requires I great deal of work nnd considerable pipe, but ' has one advantage in that their in-I in-I duction into the culinary system will j not appreciably diminish the irriga-j irriga-j tion water supply, because the flow i from them was not sufficient to reach i the creek. The City now has on hand 5,000 feet of new pipe which will be used to replace defective pipe about the city, where there is heavy pressure, and a portion of the best of this pipe j displaced will be used to bring in ad- ditional springs nt the head, where ' there is no pressure. The city administration is doing all in its power to relieve the shortage of water in the higher portions of the 1 city, and the supervisor is espelially energetic in this respect. Another provision that has been made for the relief of those disadvan tageous located is the shutting of the water off the other poitions of the city until the residents of this part have had an opportunity of filling fill-ing vessels and providing their daily supply of water. It is hoped that a short time longer will see the elini nation of the complain com-plain of a scarcity of water in the city. |
