Show SCHOOL CREDITS FOR HOME WORK New Departure Having for Its Object the Broader Develop ment of the Children Editor The Record The function of our schools is to assist boys and girls to become useful men and women. This the schools cannot accomplish to the best advantage without the hearty co-operation of the home Surely it is possible for parent, and teachers to work together more than they have done in the training of children, without interfering in-terfering with the home discipline disci-pline or hampering the work of the school. Education should make us more willing and efficient workers. If it doesn't, what is its use? -The foolish notion should no Iw prevail that education is-to , pt ' us to make a living without ia jm Every-peirsorrlisr--s-oTrc ?V duties, chores and the likw4?y. 1 is much sewing and cooj vj mending and baking, washmg dishes, sweeping, dusting, mak ing beds, mopping, washing7iron-ing, washing7iron-ing, making lires, getting kindling, kind-ling, coal and water; caring for other members of the family;! chores about the garden, yard or' barn; feeding stock or poultry: milking cows, etc., that boys and girls can do. Under the proper encouragement and direction the boys and girls who are in school can be taught to do things well thoroughly. The more they do well and cheerfully, the better for them; they will become finer and more useful men and women. Somewhere along the line there should be a lot of training in the matter of cheerful helpfulness!' In our homes too many times there is shirking, whining, scolding scold-ing and even quarreling; too much distressed condition of face, voice or manner. Sometimes boys and girls grow to be young, men and young women without ' having had the training and benefit ben-efit that comes from knowing how to do well and cheerfully the thousand and one duties that should fall to the lot of the,.aver-age the,.aver-age man and woman. -' Tho schools of Cedar CitySyant to be of assistance to the nBFne. In order to accomplish this result re-sult it has been decided to'-g.vo school credit for home industrial work. This cannot be accomplished, accomp-lished, however, without' the united efforts of both parents and teachers. That both will give their co-operation seems to ' me assured. - ..
