Show RIOTING IN MICHIGAN ' COPPER DISTRICTS Calumet, Mich, Sept, 30-Shots fired in two attacks on strikebreakers strike-breakers and numerous fights between be-tween union and nonunion miners min-ers marked the copper mine strike today. A special car with 30 men from a New York detective agency brought here by the Ahmeek Mining company to assist in breaking the copper strike was attacked by a mob when it arrived ar-rived at Ahmeek before dawn. A number of shots were fired at the car and the fire was returned. The car windows were broken by stones hurled at them, but no one was hurt. When a barrifeade crossed the tracks prevented the car from reaching the mine it was brought back to Calumet. A few hours later when the men returned to Ahmeek in automobiles, many shots again were exchanged. Only one of the automobiles was hit and as far as known no one on either side was wounded. Disorder was rampant in the Calumet and, Keweenaw districts dis-tricts today following the dis-splutjkm dis-splutjkm by Circuit Judge O'Brien of the injunctionjagainst picketing picket-ing and interference with workmen work-men by strikers. Attacks on men going to work were numerous num-erous and several arrests were make by military and civil officers. Not a man reported for work at the Mohawk mine this morning, morn-ing, due to threats by strikers last night. The mine fires died out and the town of Mohawk was without fire protection and water supply. |
