Show SERIOUS CHARGES AGAINST THE NAVY Washington, Sept. 30 "If the charges made by Arthur Middle-ton Middle-ton of the existence of snobbery, social caste, drinking, gambling and disrespect of women are true, and I do not believe them, then the United States navy ought to be abolished." This was the reply of Secretary Daniels today to the charges and the comments of former Paymaster Paymas-ter Arthur Middleton, as published pub-lished today. Secretary Daniels has invited Mr. Middleton to give him a specific case on which to. proceed with an investigation. Mr. Middleton, it is learned today, to-day, does not think it is for him to furnish facts and details, but that the charges being made, it is for the navy department to investigate through its own resources. re-sources.
