Carpenter of Central was in town Tuesday for the purpose of bringing his son here to accept employment during the winter. The job department of The Record is kept busy to keep up with the orders for commercial printing ot every description. During the week this department depart-ment turned out an order of several hundred coupon books, a clas of work that has heretofore hereto-fore been done in Salt Lake and eastern cities. This is the reason rea-son The Record job department is constantly busy filling orders of the most difficult type. Those who are in a position to distinguish distin-guish good work, want the class of work turned our by our job department. It's good sense to get it when it costs no more than the other kind. Bishop John G. Webster and Walter K. Granger have been busy for several days making a personal call on each taxpayer in Cedar City to ascertain as to when he may be expected to pay his portion of the assessment made recently on the taxable property of this city, for the purpose of paying for the land recently purchased by the Commercial Com-mercial Club committee for the use and benefit of the Branch Agricultural College. The above gentlemen report that only three or four, of the scores so far interviewed, in-terviewed, have refused to pay the tax, and these were some of the smallest taxpayers of the city. The assessment of one of the mercantile stores of the city amounts to $1200, another to $1000, and that of the Bank of Southern Utah to $700. The principal taxpayers are assuming assum-ing their portion without complaint com-plaint and there is every indication indica-tion that the necessary amount will be nearly raised this fall by 'the time general taxes have been paid. Madame Rumor having put in circulation the news that our jolly townsman, Dave C. Bulloch and the charming saleslady Miss Carrie Neilson, of the Co-op store, were on the eve of launching launch-ing their barque in unison on the matrimonial sea, a bunch of Cedar City boys and girls decid-ed'such decid-ed'such an important step should not be taken without some recognition rec-ognition from them, thereupon some thirty of them each selected select-ed some superannuated piece of household' necessity and called on the (supposed to be) prospective- bride and groom Sunday evening to provide them a "shower" and other tokens of esteem. A. merry time was the result and at the close Mr. Bulloch invited the entire company com-pany to a refreshment parlor, where the choicest refreshements to be provided at that late hour were served. |
