Show WAR PRICE BUGABOO I nPllKRK is a wide-spread feeling that the "War I r Price" bugaboo is being worked entirely too far B in this country at this stage of the proceedings. A B few manufacturers were of necessity compelled to B raise prices because of the difficulty of obtaining raw B materials, and this fact and the ignorance of the pur- B chasing public has been taken advantage of by others B to make unreasonable profits and amass big fortunes B by others, who were not affected by these unusual B conditions. The price raising practice soon became B epidemic, and spread to practically every industry in fl the country, common labor being about the last to get B in line, and this only when the greatly increased cost, B of living compelled them to do so. B Now ii has become the universal practice for every mother's son among us to try to "uraft" his neighbor, H Md all that is necessary in doing so is to utter the B familiar battle cry, "War Times " B Just how the war has been responsible for increas- fl ing the juice of hay. grain, tlour. fruits and garden fl stuff in this inland district where we never export B and ranis import these commodities, it would be hard B to tell, except th.it the farmers, like the rest of us I have to meet the increased etist of living, and COnse B quently have to gel more for their product. H A reasonable increase, all along the line, over for- LsH mer Dficei can be expected, we presume, but in many B instances it strikes us, and also strike the majority, B that the thing of war prices is entirely overdone. B Pretty good advice is, do not lose your heads and I become imbued with the idea that evervthing is go B ing to continue to advance in price. Just hold onto I your nioiK-v a while ami let the other fellow hold the B goodl and he will soon be seeking a closer acquaint B anceship on more favorable terms to you. BsH R |
