Last Monday evening the county fair committee for 1916 held their first meeting and made a good start in the preparations for the county fair next fall. The committee arc to be congratu-. congratu-. lated on the fact that they are beginning begin-ning their work in good season. Tills committee is the same one that served the people in this capacity at the last fair held here, and tho early start they are making, taken in connection with their previous experience in this work is one of the best indications that we will have ns good a fair next fall as has ever been held in our city. The dates chosen for the fair were September 14, 15, and 16. The matter of a Derby raco for this celebration was discussed, and it is very likely that an attraction of this kind will too arranged for. The committee com-mittee will make an effort to secure the southern Utah Derby .race which Mr. Sherman of Escalante is working up, and if not successful in this they expect to make their own arrangements arrange-ments and have a big Derby race at the coming fair. Another important matter discussed was that of the fair grounds. At present Parowan City owns o,nly part of the grounds and the com-mitteo com-mitteo will make an effort to gtt nil the land turned over to the city, and have it sEt apart as a permanent ground for the holding of fairs. The enclosure will then be enlarged, taking tak-ing in all the fair grounds, and another low fence built around inside the track. The brush will also be removed from tho enclosure, and Parowan will then have a fair ground which will reflect credit on the community. January 2, the committee will hold another meeting, and the coming week they expect to begin active work on the grounds. The following membors are numbered num-bered on the fair committee: Thomas Bennett, William Pritchard, Nephi Orton, George Rasmussen, D A. Matheson, Thos. Davenport and Warner Mitchell. Let every one stand by the committee com-mittee and boost for the Iron County Fair for 1015. |
