Wilford Day, and the Branch Normal School, appearing appear-ing in today's paper. W. II. Lawrence of Tooele is in Cedar City visiting with his brothers, B. R. and Thomas Lawrence. Mr. Lawrence is combining business with pleasure, pleas-ure, and while here will look over the dry farming possibilities possibili-ties in this section with a view to purchasing some dry lands. A number of fruit growers of "Dixie" have been in town during the week with supplies of the delicious fruits of which that section is so deservedly famous. Cedar City offers i. market for the disposal of a surprisingly large quantity of fruit from other sections, particularly peaches, Last Saturday George Nelson was tried before City Justice E. J. Palmer on a charge of gaming. The defendant pleaded notjguilty and the case went to trial, resulting in the court finding a verdict of guilty and assessing a fine of $30. Doubtless there is a growing field here for such an enterprise, E. R. Lay, who has been in town a week looking over the prospects for locating here in the barber business, left for his home in Salt Lake City Monday afternoon. He will endeavor to dispose of his business at the latter place and if successful will return to Cedar to take the management of the barber shop of J. H. Hunter. He is well pleased with the prospects here and feels that this is destined to be an important commercial center. F. E. Fletcher of Salt Lake City was in Cedar City a few days the first of the week looking look-ing over the field with a view to locating" here in the contracting, and building business. Mr. Fletcher is one of the leading contractors and builders of Salt Lake, having been engaged in that business for thirteen years. Jones, local i contractor, .and after investigating investigat-ing the prospects and outlook for the future of this city, concluded conclud-ed that no better field could be found, and as a result he and Mr. Jones formed a partnership under the firm name of Jones & Fletcher. Mr. Fletcher returned to Salt Lake Tuesday to close up his affairs. there, and will return re-turn to this city within a few days. t E. L. Peter Anderson, proprietor of the well-known Anderson fruit farm near Leeds, was in town Monday .with a load of fine peaches. Mr. Anderson states that his crop is not as heavy this season as usual. He attributes attrib-utes th shortage to the itiu that for seventeen, years his trees have yielded "an abundant crop each year, a record which is not to be expected under ordinary or-dinary conditions. Mr. j Smith had been to Salt Lake to have one of his children operated upon for nose and throat trouble and was on his way home, accompanied ac-companied by his wife and five children. Shorly after he reached i this city he was seized with an acute attack of appendicitis and was rushed to the hospital. The ' phvsicians operated at once and found that the appendix had already broken and that the infection in-fection had spread through the abdomen, tie intestines being matted together.
