Show Editor Intermountain Catholic: Among the telegraphic news .of the papers of today J read that Felipi Bu-encamlno, Bu-encamlno, former secretary of state in Aguinaldo's cabinet, was heard by the house committee on insular affairs. He said he represented the federal party, the influential insurgents and the Kati-punan Kati-punan (secret) society. Here is one of his statements, as reported: "Speaking of education, he said the friars were hostile to the American government. On Palm Sunday, he asserted, as-serted, the friars had told the people in the confessional that the cholera existed ex-isted only in he minds of the Americans, Ameri-cans, for the reason, he said, that the friars desired cholera to sprvad in order or-der that their fees for various attendance attend-ance and ceremonies might be increased." in-creased." -.. Is it not right and proper that this Senor u'encamino, who proves to be a "Malcamino" as far as he is a representative repre-sentative of his people, should be called down right at the start of his American Amer-ican career? Shall his statements go unchallenged and unnoticed, or shall he be asked to prove his assertion? Every Catholic knows how absurd it is and how untrue. Buencamino is an ungrateful son of holy church, and owes his education to the very friars he maligns. He. may not know that there are Catholics alive in this country coun-try and believe that anything against the religion and the friars of his islands isl-ands is pleasingly received here. Where is the Catholic Union of American Catholic societies? 'Please call him down. (". YV. K. Salt Lake City. June 1. 1902. |
