B. Smedley, the son of W. E. Smedley of this city, has made a hit ' ' with his operetta, "The Confidence ; Man." It was well received at New Orleans, and Mr. Smedley Is at ' Springfield, Mass., negotiating with probable purchasers. Mrs. Canning and daughter, Miss Canning, of California, are guests of Professor Robert J. Canning of All ; Hallows college. Mrs. Frank Reber and Miss Mary Hackett of Butte are in the., city, the guests of Mrs. George G. Callahan, and Mrs. Oswald Veltz spent last Sunday In Ogden. Miss Pauline Bettings of Cincinnati will arrive in the city next week, to visit her brother, Gus Bettings. Miss Early and Miss Bircher will remain two weeks more, visiting in San Francisco. James O'Connor has returned to the city from Heber. Miss Georgia Vadner has returned from the east, where she has been attending school. The Misses Cosgriff entertained at the Theatre during the past week, in honor of Miss Edna Donellan. J. A. Gallagher returned to Butte last Monday. Mrs. John Hughes and the children have returned from California, where they spent the winter months. o Thomas Lynch left last week for New York, in the interest of his mines at Tonopah. James and Walker Salisbury returned re-turned on Tuesday from Cornell. Miss Marie Luce returned last Friday Fri-day from Park City, after a delightful visit with Dr. and Mrs. Donaher. Mrs. Victor Youngberg came down from Park City last Saturday, to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Kirk. Miss Mabel Renshaw of Butte is visiting vis-iting friends in this city. Miss Margaret Kennedy is now at 1 Ford's hotel. In about two weeks she will leave for her home in Buffalo to visit with her mother during the summer, sum-mer, j Mrs. Thomas Kearns has discontin-j ued her Mondays at home until September. Sep-tember. Mrs. McKay went to Park City last week to spend a few days with Mr. McKay. Miss Gertrude Butters of Bingham is visting friends in the city. Dennis Sullivan left last week for a visit to Chicago. He was accompanied by Jack O'Donnell, the young son of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. O'Donnell. Little Emma Pfister has gone to Brigham City to visit relatives for the summer. Miss Ethel Dooly has returned from school in the east to spend the summer sum-mer months. Mrs. J. M. Moore entertained at a 1 delightful party last week in honor of Miss Donahue, who is visiting Miss O'Meara. Charges Vadner has gone to Nevada on a mining trip. W. J. Halloran and Ruel spent a few days in the canyons the past week on a fishing trip. The Misses Kinney entertained a circus party this evening in honor of Miss Edna Donnellan. Mrs. A. Fred Wey entertained at dinner on Tuesday evening. Her guests were Mrs. Thomas Kearns, Mrs. E. A. Wall, Mrs. J. J. Daly, Mrs. M. R. King, Mrs. Newell, Mrs. P. Keogh, Mrs., J. R Pierce. |
