Show SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Miss Nora Gleason, organist of St. Mary's, has returned from Chicago. Miss Gleason spent the summer months studying pipe organ and choir conducting conduct-ing under Professor J. B. Watson, or-. ganist of Our Lady of Sorrows church. She also studied piano under W. S. B. Matthews and made a special study of children's voices at the National Summer school. The children of the junior choir of St. Mary's will meet on Saturday afternoon aft-ernoon at 3 o'clock. Miss Nora Gleason returned home Tuesday from Chicago, where she has been for several months, taking an advanced ad-vanced course in music. The Misses Wall have gone to Denver Den-ver for a short trip with their father, Colonel E. A. Wall. - - -g- Mr. and Mrs. Don H. Porter announce the engagement of their daughter, Mary Claire, to Mr. Charles Spencer Mann of Los Angeles. The bride is one of Salt Lake's most prominent young society belles, and is a great favorite. The groom is a prosperous young business busi-ness man of Los Angeles. The date of the wedding has not yet been set. Miss Anna McCornick was the hostess host-ess . at a delightful luncheon at the Country club, given in honor of Miss Dillingham of Denver. The 'decorations were most artistic, and awoke echoes Of the t-onventinn heinp- entirely in purple and white. Beautiful purple asters were used in profusion, and white flowers of the same variety were with each place card. After the luncheon lunch-eon a pleasant contest in cutting figures fig-ures was enjoyed, in which the prize was awarded to Miss Dillingham. Those cresent besides the guest of honor were Mrs. Robert Smith. Mrs. Harris K. Masters, Mrs. Louis Smed-ley Smed-ley Smith. Miss Dooley, Miss Geddes, Miss Burke and Miss Lockhart. ? The Misses Anna nad Margaret Lig-gan Lig-gan left for San Franciscd. The former for-mer will make her stay permanent, while the latter wil return in about two weeks. Miss Donnovan of the county recorder's record-er's office spent Sunday at Moss Bank cottage, as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Bush. Senator Thomas Kearns is expected back from Europe the latter part of this month. Mr. Aaron Smedley of Kentucky, who has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Smedley, has gone to the coast. Miss Cora Cora McDonald is to be the guest shortly of Mrs.. Albert O. Jones at 131 South Eighth Eat street. Mr, Frank Bletzaker, general electrical elec-trical engineer at Park City, spent a few davs in Zion this week. Dr. John Hannifin, the well known optician of Butte, Mont., was in the city on Wednesday, and left the same night for Eureka. Utah, to visit his relatives. He will spend a few days in Salt Lake before returning to Butte. Dr. Hannifin is a graduate of All Hallows Hal-lows college. Edward Bonner, who graduated recently re-cently with honors at All Hallows, has accepted a position as assistant to Postmaster Driscoll of Eureka, Utah. His many friends here are pleased with his responsible appointment. Hugh Ryan, erstwhile tutor at All Hallows college, and at another time engaged in newspaper work at Butte, arrived in the city the other day from the sunny south, where, for some time, he was employed as tutor at the college col-lege of the Marists at Atlanta. Ga. Mr. Ryan was heartily greeted by his many friends in Salt Lake. Very Rev. M. J. Fitzsimmons, vicar-general vicar-general and rector of the cathedral of the Holy Name,' Chicago, arrived in the city on Sunday and will remain for a few weeks. |
