Bishop Brondel went over to Anaconda at the invitation of Father Coopman to offer suggestions in regard to the construction construc-tion and interior arrangements of the new parochial school now being built. His advice was asked, also, as to the 1 matter of proprosed improvements on the rectory in Anaconda. He returned to Butte, and started for Philipsburg, accompanied by Bishop Cunningham, stopping for a day or two at Deer Lodge. Father Goller of the Jesuit college of Spokane and Father De Ryckere of Deer Lodge left to attend the state ) convention of the Ancient Order of Hi- 1 bernians. which met at Great Falls. John Maguire has been appointed a member of the press committee, and also a delegate at the coming meeetinj of the International Mining congress. Mrs. Harry A. Kennedy of Butte, Mont., is the guest at the home of her aunt, Mrs. K. F. Malloy, at 1611 First avenue. She will visit here for . some j time, says the Spokane Chronicle. Miss Margie Gavin has returned to her home from St. Paul, after having spent the past two years in St. Joseph's academy in that city. Mis Jean Sullivan has been a guest in the home of Mrs. Lulu Largey for the past ten days. Miss Delia Kehoeof Miles City is in the city, on her way to Pocatello, Ida. J. Frank Gavin of St. Paul is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Gavin. Mr, Gavin holds a responsible position with the Plymouth Clothing company of St. Paul. Messrs. M. and R. Evans of Salt Lake, and Mr. J. W. Cody of Butte spent Monday in Missoula, on the.ir way home from Hamilton, where they have been the guests of Mrs. Margaret Daly. S Miss Mary McBride, who was formerly former-ly one of Missoula's most popular teachers, but who left last fall for El-lensberg. El-lensberg. Wash., is the guest .of her brother, Mr. M. B. McBride, at his home on the south side. Miss Katherine Ronan returned Wednesday from the biological station at the head of Flathead lake. Miss Ronan stopped at the camp at the foot of the lake, and reports their having hav-ing a most delightful time. Miss Ronan Ro-nan has accepted a position as teacher in the Butte schools for the next year. Missoula wil regret her leaving, but wish her success in her new work. S Mr. C. H. McLeod returned Thursday from a business trip to Kalispell. $ Colonel and Mrs. Burke and Mr. and Mrs. William Q. Raupt departed Wednesday Wed-nesday for a two weeks' outing at Lolo hot springs. v Miss Bessie Farrell spent last Saturday Sat-urday and Sunday at-Rankin's ranch, up Grant creek, returning to Missoula on Monday. Fick and Tom McCormick recently sold to Colonel Nolan of Helena a very fine saddle horse. The price was a handsome one. ANACONDA, MONT. The Ladies' Auxiliary of the A. O. H. has elected the following delegates to the state convention at Great Falls: Mesdames Hugh Daly. K. Sharp, M. Lappin, W. Kelliher, Miss M. Brennan and Miss N. Bennett, . President William Scallon of the Anaconda Copper Mining company was Work on the new St. Paul parochial school building has commenced, and it is expected that in three weeks the structure will be ready for. occupancy. It is located at the corner of Fourth and MaDle streets. . Plans for the building were drawn by M. D. Kern, who designed the $50,-000 $50,-000 high school building which is now being erected in South Main street. The parochial school will be a one-s'ory one-s'ory frame, 52x52 feet in dimensions, and contain four study rooms and a room in which music will be taught. , Father Coopman, under whose direction direc-tion the building is being put up, has been given plans for a new rectory in the same parish. Mrs. Leonard and Mrs. Crawford are sisters. The Rev. Father Goller of Gonzaga college, Spokane, was in the city Sunday, Sun-day, and delivered two instructive ad dresses at St. Paul's church. At 10:30 in the morning he celebrated high mass and preached a short sermon ser-mon on the subjects of the "Duties of Parents to Their Children," the central cen-tral thought of which was that the soul of a child should not be trained simply to serve the ends of the natural man, but the supernatural as well. He also emphasized the necessity of religious teaching as a complement to education. In the evening he spoke to a large audience on he subject of "Virginity." Father Goller came toiAnaconda from Deer Lodge, where he recently preached a retreat to the Sisters of Charity. He has also preached retreats to the Sisters Sis-ters of the Good Shepherd and the Sisters Sis-ters of Charity in Helena. Miss C. M. McMillen has returned to Anaconda, after spending five weeks in Missoula. A Miss Belle McEachran of Butte js visiting in the city with friends. Judge James Quane expects to depart de-part for Minneapolis some tim this week. a Bishop Cunningham of Kansas and Bishop Brondell of Helena' were guests of St. Ann's hospital last Sunday. . The Mill and Smeltermen's union of Anaconda initiated a class of over 100 new members into its organization recently, re-cently, and at the close of the business meeting an open session was held at A. O. H. hall that was attended by about SCO workingmen, who listened to a number of rousing addresses delivered deliv-ered by well known labor leaders of Butte and Anaconda. MISSOULA, MONT. George L. C. club entertained the club and a few of their friends Tuesday evening, Aug. 12. with a masked carnival carni-val at St. Joseph's hall. The grand march, which consisted of masked dancers only, started at 9 o'clock. In the march were some comical as well as exquisite costumes. Jim , Hopson carried out his part to the delight of the spectators, taking the part of a woman with as much ease as the members mem-bers of the female sex could themselves. them-selves. After dancing four dances the maskers unmasked, after which the spectators all joined in tripping the light fantastic till the hour of 12 rolled around. All who were lucky enough to be present voted it one of the bestNso-cial bestNso-cial evenings they had ever spent, also the music the best. The P. O. C. club expects to give invitation dances at least a month, and all who are lucky enough to receive an invitation should attend. The committee who had charge of the carnival should be complimented on their good work of making it so large a success. Mrs. John E. Johnson of Carey, Ida., who has been very poorly for some time, came in yesterday and was operated oper-ated upon by Dr. Castle. At last reports re-ports she -was doing nicely. Councilman W. H. Cleare of the People's Peo-ple's store is down with an attack of genuine typhoid fever. His many friends hope for a short and victorious battle with this dread malady. Sheridan, Wyo., Aug. 14. James P. Connelly, a well known stockman residing re-siding at Buffalo. Wyo.. met with ;f serious se-rious accident at Omaha early yesterday yester-day morning. In company with J. E. Moore, Mr. Connolly was standing on a side track viewing a rapidly passing passenger train, when a number of freight cars backed down against them. Both men were caught, but Moore was uninjured, and a moment later he pulled his friend from beneath the wheels, where both legs were crushed below the knees. Connolley was taken to a hospital and both feet were amputated above the ankle. The injured man has a wife anfl four children residing on a ranch thirty-five miles southwest of thfs city. Connolley and Moore had accompanied several carloads of cattle to Omaha, and were crossing the track to get their breakfast when the accident acci-dent occurred. LARAMIE, WYO. J. B. Gunning and son, George Donnelly Don-nelly and Dan Quinlan returned early in the week from a hunting and fishing fish-ing trip in the southern part of the county. ' t Mr. and Mrs. John Mahoney came in from the ranch Wednesday with their little daughter, Nora, who had the misfortune mis-fortune to break her arm while at the ranch. She and another girl were riding horseback, when both fell off. Nora fell on her arm irr such a manner that it was broken. Dr. Maghee set the fracture.
