Show Daniel Sully in "The Matchmaker." Daniel S.dly, known to 10,000 personal friends and admirers throughout the country as "Dan" Sully, will appear at the Colonial theatre for one week beginning be-ginning Sunday evening, May 2, in his latest and most successful play, "The Matchmaker," a comedy drama in three acts by Jerrold Shcpard. In this play Mr. Sully again appears as a priest, and those who have seen him in "The Parish Priest" will need no assurance assur-ance that he does justice to the part. Sully's original production of "The Parish Par-ish Priest" was a daring innovation, and for over a year the religiously inclined in-clined public, the very people on whom he relied most for support, refused to accept the play, fearing that the char-, actor of a Catholic priest could not be presented on the stage in a proper manner. man-ner. It was an expensive undertaking for Mr. Sully to convince clergy and laity that "The Parish Priest" was deserving de-serving of their support, but in the end he succeeded and it eventually proved the greatest success of his career. In Father Daly, Mr. Sully has a role that fits him to perfection. He has plenty of comedy of the characteristic Sully type, while the dramatic situa tions give him better opportunities than has been afforded him in any of his previous pre-vious plays. He is delighted with the new play, and considers it one of the big winners of the season. |
