There was a very large attendance of the clergy at the Solemn Office and High Mass at the Convent of Merov, Goldenbridge, for the late Mother Marv Gertrude Howell, who was Superioress for the past twelve years and was much esteemed by all Avho knew her.-Kt. Rev. Mgr. O'Donnell, V. G.. presided, and Very Rev. Canon Fee, P. P., St. James, was celebrant of the High Mass. A large number of laity friends of the late Rev. Mother attended at the obsequies. Limerick. The death is recorded of the Rev. M. Donor, P. P.. Shana golden, at the age of 61. after an illness of some duration. He was a native of the west of the county and was for several years principal of St. Munchin's College, previous to his being appointed to Shanagolden Parish. He was a well known man of letters, and a great linguist. Louth. His Eminence Cardinal Logue has appointed ap-pointed Rev. B. Donnellan. P. P., of Ravensdale. a Canon of the Archgiocese in room of the late Rt. Rev. Mgr. Pow-derly, Pow-derly, P. P., of Togher. Roscommon. A '67 man has passed away at Dallin-tubber Dallin-tubber in the death of Mr. James Vaugh, who .was 83 years of age. "He was a well-known personality in Cas-tlerea Cas-tlerea district and took an active part in the Fenian movement in '65 and '67, and participated in the Land League, being secretary to Eallintubber branch for some years. Sligo. A well known member of the Dominican Domini-can Order has passed away at Holv Cross Priory. Sligo, in the person of the Rev. M. A. Hughes, O. P., who is decplv regretted locally and will be no less regretted by the people of Drogheda. Tralee, Newbridge and Newry, amonest whom he labored for many years. Father Hughes was a native of Drogheda, Drog-heda, and for a time superintended the Dominican Seminary" in Tralee, and was Dean and Professor at Newbridge, and subsequently Prior of several of the houses of the Order in Ireland. In recognition of his eloquent zeal in the pulpit he was honored by the Order with the title of Preacher General Office and Requiem Mass took place at Sligo. Tipperary. The presentation was made in Dublin by the Rev. M. Cheasty, Spiritual Director, and Mr. J. Mahony, the president presi-dent of the club. Rev. Patrick MacKenna, Professor of Theology and Canon Law, Maynooth College, has been selected as dignissi-mus dignissi-mus to succeed the late Most Rev. Dr. Owens as Bishop of t'logher by the parish priests of the diocese. Dr. Gaughran presided at. the Office and High Mass in the Loreto Convent. Mullingar. for the late Rev. Mother Cecilia O'Reilly, - u inch was attended by a lartre number of clergy. The remains were removed to Nayan, where the interment took place amid every manifestation of regret. |
