Show Pather Aloysius. WTord comes from the old Santa Barbara Bar-bara mission, California, that Father Aloysius Wiewer is dead,-at the age of 63. He was one of the picturesque figures fig-ures familiar to most tourists who visit the mission and admire the church and the famous rose garden of the Franciscan Fran-ciscan monks, into which no woman Is permitted to' enter. Father Wirwer first distinguished himself in tho plague in 1S78 in Memphis. Out of a band of Franciscan priests who cared for the living and said prayers over the dead he was the only one who sur- vived. In 1894 he came to Santa Bar-' Bar-' bara, but after three years he suffered a bad fall while working at repairs on the mission, and since then he had been total." helpless. |
