Show T Written by a Nun. The Sisters of Mercy of St. Bridget's convent, Meriden, Conn., are the authors of three songs that have just been published and favorably considered by a number of well-known musicians. The titles of' the songs are: "Bienvenu" (welcome song). Viens an Bois" (Come to the Woods), and "La Reine des Flours" (The Queen of Flowers). They have original French and English words. The music is an arrangement of old melodies. W. H. Santehnan, leader of the United States Marine band of Washington, says that "Bienvenu' and "Viens au Bois" are worthy of a place in an up-td-datc repertoire. Several theatrical musical directors also speak in high praise of the compositions. composi-tions. - While the Sisters of Mercy are' the accredited composers of the songs, they are really the work of one of the nuns, but, as in the ease of any work of public nature in which the Si-ters are concerned, the community to -which they belong, rather than the individual, gets the credit. |
