She left a husband and three little children deso'ate, and the sympathy sym-pathy of all who knew her is extended to them in their bereavement. Samuel Newhouse has presented the Country club with a beautiful isolid silver sil-ver cup. which will be presented to the successful woman competitor in a series ser-ies of Solf games. The cup was made by Tiffany & Co. of New York, and is valued at ?500. Miss Anna O'Brien was the recipient of a very pleac-ant surprise party last Friday evening at her home on Third street. A very enjoyable evening was spent playing games, after which a dainty luncheon wai? served. The Social and Literary society of St. Mary's held the monthly business meeting meet-ing on Tuesday evening. All arrangements arrange-ments for the entertainment on Friday evening. May 4, at the Ladies' Literary club rooms, were completed. Helen, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Waldemar Van Cctt. died on Tuesday morning, after a long illnew. The sincere sympathy of many friends is extended to Mr. and Mis. Van Cott in their bereavement. The death of Miss Helen Murphv at Butte last week was a great shock to all the friends in Salt Lake, who knew and loved her. Her illness was of short duration, the immediate cause being pneumonia. She was a woman of noble no-ble character, of a kindly disposition, a faithful Catholic, and when death came she was not unprepared. Miss Murphy lived in Ogden for some time, and later here in this citv, previous to her departure for Butte. She was j highly esteemed by every one who j knew her and her sudden death is greatly deplored. Austin Gavin, agent for the Colorado Midland, is in the city to remain about a month. He is taking Mr. Donncll's desk during the latter's absence in the east. Mrs. Gavin and little son. Morgan, Mor-gan, accompany him. Mr. Gavin i-; one of the most popular railroad men in the western circuit. He is now wearing wear-ing a handsome diamond locket, the gift of the Colorado livestock men. The members of the choir at St. Marv's and Mr. Gavin held an informal reception recep-tion after Mass last Sunday. During his residence in the city he was a faithful faith-ful and valued member of the choir, and all were delighted to see him, so aiuv extraordinary disturbance last Sunday can be blamed on Mr. Gavin. When we say disturbance, we do not mean a musical mus-ical disturbance. |
