Show ANACONDA. The Catholic Club. (Correspondence Intermountain Catholic.) On Tuesday evening, April 24th a very large crowd filled the rooms of the Catholic club, the occasion being la-dief' la-dief' night. One of the principal attractions at-tractions in connection with the evening's even-ing's entertainment was a debate on the subject: "Resolved, That the pen is mightier than the sword." John T. Casey spoke on the affirmative fdde and the Rev. Father Follet ably defended the negative. After a spirited debate, j a vote was taken on the question, and the affirmative won by a margin of one vote. Rev. Father Mallo, the venerable Indian In-dian -missionary, was present on .the occasion and delivered a very interesting interest-ing address. The club will on or about May 17 give their initial grand concert at the Margaret theatre. At that time a. programme pro-gramme of number composed of the be-st talent in the city will be rendered. On May 8 a mock trial will be held at the c-hib rooms. The defendant is W. H. Mahoney, the best known and most popular member of the club, who is charged with breach of promise. The caste of the officers of the court before whom Mr. Mahoney will be tried is as follows: Judge, Joseph McCaffrey; prosecuting attorneys, J. E. McDonnell i and Thomas Kelly; attorneys for the j defense, Jchn T. Casey and Rev. C. G. Follet: sheriff. Joe Sullivan; under sheriff, J. E. McCarthy. The case will be tried before a jury of twelve men. A new entertainment committee was j appointed, as follows: Peter Towey, chairman; William Clark, Joseph McCaffrey, Mc-Caffrey, J. J. O'Connor, J. E. McCarthy, Harry O'Neill and Thomas Kelly. By a unanimous vote-of the club a committee to frame a new constitution and set of by-laws for the club was appointed. ap-pointed. The present constitution and I by-laws have proven cumbersome and I unwieldy. Shorter and more compact i document:! are needed. The committee commit-tee consists of J. M. Madden, J. E. McDonnell, Mc-Donnell, K. C. Malone, Joseph. McCaffrey, McCaf-frey, W. H. Mahoney and Peter Towey. 'A very pretty wedding was: solemnized solemn-ized at St. Paul's! Catholic church on April 26. The contracting parties were Mr. Joseph H. Smith and Mis? Josie Zimmer, both of Anaconda. A large number of the friends and acquaintances acquaint-ances of the couple were present at the ceremony, which was performed by Father Follet. There were two bridesmaids, brides-maids, Miss. Clara Quirk and Miss Emma Pahl. Two groonismen were also in attendance, Mr. Henry Dicken-am Dicken-am and Mr. Ed Davis. After the ceremony the wedding party war driven driv-en to the Furst ranch east of the city, where a. feast was in waiting, and .whore the happy coupla will make their home, the groom being one of Anaconda's Ana-conda's energetic dairymei, who has been doing business with fie people of Anaconda for the past eight years and lately enlarged his business by leasing the. Furst ranch. The bride is a charming young lady. A pretty wedding was solemnized at St. Paul's church on Mondiy morning at 7:30 o'clock, when Mr. Mike Sulivan and Miss Sarah Ryan wer-: united in wedlock. Father Follet officiating.' A large number of their relatives and friends were present. Mr. Sullivan, who was formerly one of Anaconda's : electricians, but now reside.? at Butte, I was attended by Mr. John Sullivan as ! groomsman. The bride ha.- resided In Anaconda some time and i.-. a lady of many charms. She was Attended by MifH Agnes O'Boyle as bridesmaid. After Af-ter the ceremony a weddin- breakfast was served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O'Brien at 311 East Park avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan left for Butte on the morning train, where they will reside. 4 On Thursday evening, Anril 27, the ladies" of C. B. A. gave a very enjoyable enjoy-able card party at A. O. H. hall. The prizes won were as follows: irst prize, Miss Julia Peters and Richard Flannigan; second prize, Mrs. Pat Judge and James Lucy; booby prize, Mrs. Sharne and Philip Richard. After Af-ter cards an elegant lunch vas served, and later on dancing took place in the large hall. . The members of the choir of St. Paul's church had a most enjoyable picnic at Grcssson Cpringe on May 1. |
