Archbishop Keane has visited all of the principal cities of the East and is now on a tour of the chief cities of the West. His efforts have thus far been very successfuls and the results much greater than we're anticiDated when he entered the present work. To this he consecrated himself for one or two years, but at the beginning believed that the entire time would bo necessary neces-sary for the consummation of the project pro-ject at hand. He announces, however, that with the subscriptions already received re-ceived and assurances of subscrlDtlons in the future, there is every Drosoeet that his task will be finished before the I expiration- of the two years. Other ! large donations have been received I from prominent Chicago Catholics. I The Archbishop said today: "My i present errand is to raise an endow ! ment fund for the support of professor- ! shirs already in ' existence. Fifteen j prof rssersh hps have already been en- i dowed with a fund of $30,000 each. Eighteen more need to be endowed j right away. In round figures I need I to raise $1,000,000. "and to that task I have consecrated my energies for the next year or two." |
