Adams, an eastern theatrical man of much experience, will be the amusement director at the Salt Palace for the coming season. P. M. McGregor and his daughter have returned from a two months' trip to England. Mr. and Mrs. Perry Heath returned home last Tuesday. Mrs. M. B. Conway Con-way of Louisville, Ky., mother of Mrs. Heath, will visit here for the summer. The commencement exercises of' the Salt Lake High school will be held in the Salt Lake theatre on the evenings of June 10, 11 and 12. The senior class of the High school will give a ball on May 2. The chaperons cha-perons will be Mrs. E. E. Shepard, Mrs. C. P. Mason, Mrs. A. C. McLean, Mrs. W. D. Gaby. Governor Hunt of Idaho spent a few days in the city last week. J. F. Buckley left last Thursday for Washington, D. C, to attend the meeting meet-ing of the International Brotherhood of Electrical orkers. Daniel Egan of the Ingersoll-Sar-geant Drill company spent a few days In Eureka last week. A pleasant surprise party was given to Miss Anna Johnston on Thursday of last week. Those present were the Misses Kane, Cahoon, Cronin, Snow, McQueen and Mrs. H. Johnston; Messrs. Adams. Peck. Payton, Bralton, McQueen and Bernhisel. Mrs. T. D. Sullivan spent a few days in the city last week on important business. bus-iness. Mrs. Philip Clark of Eureka returned to her home last week after a pleasant visit in the city. Mr. and Mrs. Horace Whitney have returned from their honeymoon trip to Glenwood Springs and Denver. They will be at home to their friends at the Miller hotel after May 10. W. J. John Sullivan of Butte is visiting friends hee in Salt Lake. Mrs. O. B. Fitzpatrick of Pueblo is a guest at the Windsor. J. J. Burke of Dederichs & Burke, the mill contracting firm, has returned from a busines strip to Pittsburg. Professor M. V. 6'Shta of the University Uni-versity of Wisconsin will lecture for the summer school, which will be conducted con-ducted by the University of Utah. William Symon, formerly with the Cohn Dry Goods company and now one of the prominent merchants of Butte, is in this city for a few days en route home from a purchasing trip in the east. Mrs. Symon accompanies him. Mr. Symon is meetink many of his old friends and receiving their congratulations congratu-lations on his great success in the mercantile mer-cantile world. The card party given by Mrs. N. P. Dooley last week for the benefit of the Altar society was a decided financial and social success. The large rooms of the elegant home were beautifully decorated dec-orated with cut flowers and palms. Sixty-three was played and prizes were awarded the lucky winners, after which delicious refreshments were served. Mrs. Dooley is a charming hostess, having the delightful faculty of making mak-ing her guests feel at home. She was ably assisted by Mrs. A. Fred Wey, Mis. D. H. Bero. Mrs. J. W. McDonough. McDon-ough. the Misses Gibbons, Luce, Kirk and Hanson. About $24.50 was made for the Altar society and Mrs. Dooley is to be con gratulated on ner sucress. A very pleasant surprise party was given 'Katie Marron oil Wednesday evening. April 23, in honor of her fourteenth four-teenth birthday, when a number of her schoolmates and friends gathered at her home and had a very enjoyable time. Music and games being the feature fea-ture of the evening, dainty refreshments refresh-ments were served later. All departed with happy remembrance of the evening. even-ing. The Utopia club held a delightful meeting Wednesdav afternoon at the home of Mrs. S. P. Kimball, 326 South West Temple street. The house was decorated with American Beauties, ferns and palms. The prizes were all pieces of china, exquisitely hand-painted hand-painted by the hostess. The first prize was awarded to Mrs. A. H. Tarbet, the lone hand prize fell to Mrs. Harry Duke and the consolation was given to Mrs. Fred Wey. The next meeting of the club will be with Mrs. Fred Wey at the Wey hotel on the 14th of May. Miss Bessie Lawlor of Helena, is spending a few days in the city. The members of the Alumnae association asso-ciation will meet next Sunday afternoon after-noon at 4 o'clock at St. Mary's academy. acad-emy. All the members are requested to be present. Miss Bessie Lawier of Helena, Mont., is the guest of friends in the city. "Bessie Lawlcr" is a name familiar to Intermountain Catholic readers. Miss Lawier visits Salt Lake in quest of health, hoping that Utah's climate will restore the strength lost by reason of a recent illness. On her return to Helena, Miss Lawier will visit relatives and friends at Melrose and Butte, Mont. Peter Hanrotty took Thursday's train for the south and enters the employ of Will Dooley in the mines at Stateline. 4. W. r. Noble and the Misses Noble will soon return from their Honolulu trip. The frienda of Miss Irene Kane are pleased to know that she has recovered from her recent illness. Architect Newhausen was confined to his home last week with a severe attack at-tack of rheumatism. The Utah Boy Elks' club gave a most delightful party Thursday evening even-ing of last week at the residence of Sylvan Simon. South Main street.
