Mr. Ma guire, in addition to his long series of successes in the theatrical world, has also been a front ranker with the pen. Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Kiser are rejoicing re-joicing in the advent of a son, who arrived ar-rived Wednesday. Ely, Nevada, is to have a national bank, with A. B. Witcher as cashier. The capitalization will be $23,000. and Salt Lake, Oguen and Ely capitalists are interested. Colonel E. A. Wall will accompany his daughters, the Misses Selma and Alice Wall, on Saturday to Washington. Washing-ton. D. C, where they are attending Mt. Vernon seminary. On May "X the Misses Wall will sail for Europe with eight of their school mates, accompanied by two of the teachers, for an extended trip, which will include the Mediterranean, Italy. Switzerland, England and Ireland. Ire-land. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Kearns entertained enter-tained at a beautifully appointed dinner din-ner Wednesday evening, when covers were laid for twenty. Red, the holiday color, was carried out in all the details; de-tails; lace doilies and center piece over red satin on the mahogany table held vases of American beauty roses, which flowers were also used throughout through-out the drawing rooms and reception halls. The place cards were dainty hand painted sketches and a stringed orchestra played during the dinner hours in the conservatory off the dining room. Clarence J. McFaddcn. the prominent young attorney of Ely, New. spent the holidays in the city with his mother, Mrs. Julia McFadden. Mr. and Mrs. Quimby Lamplugh. of jjenver, nave returned to tneir home after a pleasant visit with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lamplugh. Robert Gorlinski. the mining engineer, engi-neer, has gone to Alia on professional business. Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Sherman and Miss Laura Sherman are for the present at "The Cairo." Washington, D. C. The Misses Filch entertained at a delightful de-lightful New Year's eve affair when a few friends gathered for a pleasant infernal in-fernal evening, and incidentally to greet the first hours of the New Year. Thomas Sneddon, of Diamondfild Wy-., closed a deal Saturday evening whereby he secured the First and O street corner of Bsn Davis and Joseph LeaTitt for J20.000, who cleared $7,000 ov the I transac tion. Root has returned from the east for the holidays and will leave for Los Angeles, where she will spend the winter. Mrs. David Ramsey Giav has so far recovered her health that she has been .aken from the hosptal to her borne where she is convalescing. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Daiy, Miss, s Dora and Evelyn Daly and Maurice iv,u- who have spent the nasi month in New lork, will sail on Januarv 10 for Europe, Eu-rope, where they will spend several months. Mr. and Mrs. William Ames und ..Irs. Amy Thillipa and little laughter, of Beaverhead. Mont., are spending the noiidays with Mr. and Mrs. John W Hughes. Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Bu-ton and two children, from Nephi, are also guests at the Hughes home, and participated par-ticipated in a family gathering with Mrs. Morehouse, Mrs. Donaldson and iarl Morehouse, on Christmas day Mrs. John A. Marshall returned from her European trip on Saturday. Sh left her daughters, the Misses" Mary and Carry Marshall, in a convent in Paris. She spent some time in London, Lon-don, after leaving Paris, before returning return-ing to this country. Mrs. Gibson, who has been the guest of Mr. anil Mrs. George J. Gibson for some weeks, will leave the 7th of January Jan-uary for California, and on her return she will spend some "time with h"- son and family, before :eturning to the cast. Judge and Mrs. W .C. Hall, entertained enter-tained Monday evening at a dinner for v. dozen of their friends. The decorations decora-tions were all in red. three small Christmas Christ-mas trees gracing the table, on which tiny candles were usea. The guests were ex-Senator and Mrs. Thomas Kearns, Mr. and Mrs. David Keith, Air. and Mrs. J. B. Cosgriff, Rev. Father Guinan and R. D. Miller. A most elaborate Christmas tree v as loaded and surrounded with presents, pres-ents, which were given to the children. The hall was crowded and many children chil-dren were made glad by the beautiful and useful presents distributed. The hall was decorated nicely for the oco.-i-si-.n and the tree was a most beautiful one. the decorators having displayed excellent taste. After the presents had been given out the Harmonie club ren-cK'iod ren-cK'iod some of the music which has made its members famous, and other musical selections were rendered, among which was a concert by the Fort Douglas band. A speech by Mr. Aures was well received by the laree assembly. as-sembly. The floor was then cleared and many of those present indulged in dancing until a late hour. The arrangements arrange-ments were perfected by a committee composed of Messrs. Doikendorf, Hann and Doram for the Harmonie, while the Sons of Hermann weie represented by Messrs. Birkner, Kreainer and Kukuk. That their work was well done was shown by the good time afforded to all present. |
