Show SOLUTION OF RACE PROBLEM. The latest attempt to solve the race problem in ihe South is to educate both the white and colored race in the grand principle? of the Christian religion. re-ligion. Iioecutly f Pro!esf;rf minister in Atlanta said: "The Christian religion is a working force, the function of which is to fashion men after the likeness of the hiving Ox? in whose image they wore created. If in this or that section of human population it fails to ixrform its God-ordained functions then the only legitimate inference is, its power is arrested or perverted by the hate of those who refuse to be dominated by its energy. While the Christian religion is a universal working power, its sphere is among persons who can reject or pervert per-vert or uiisdimrr. its provisions, or come into complete com-plete harmony with them. i o7i trial at this time, in Georgia and at the South is not the Christian religion, hut those of us who profess it. We are on trial before the onlooki ng world. We have vti trying to solve the negro problem without calling to our aid the power of the Christian religion." The advice applies with equal force to all parts of the country, and is iu accordance, with that given by St. Paul to the citizens of Ephesus: "Be ye therefore followers of God, as most dear children." Instead of race hatred, and religious intolerance, the Christian command, "Walk in Love," means peace aud harmony to the human race, regardless of creed or color. The reason why "it fails to perform per-form its God-ordained function" is because the law of love introduced by Christ is held in abeyance, abey-ance, or entirely ignored."" Professing Christians are not always practical Christians. The law of revenge, revoked by Christ, still serves as an excu3e for religious quarrels, and an intolerant spirit. "A new command I give unto you," said Christ, "that ye love one another as I have loved you, that you also love one another." If those principles are adopted by the white ra in the South they will not only command respect for law and order, they will infuse into tho hearts of both races a tolerant Christian spirit, which will enable them to live together in peaeo and unity as the humble followers of Him who died for all. Let these Christian principles be instilled in-stilled into- the hearts of all citizens, and when practically carried out they will solve the race problem, prob-lem, and strengthen the patriotism and loyalty of every citizen. |
