Show SHUT HER OFF. ! ' The telegraph service of the newspapers last week announced that Emma Goldman intends to make a tour of the country and that she is to speak in Salt Lake. We trust she may be headed off before be-fore she gets this far; if not, we trust the woman . may not be permitted to address the citizens of Zion. She has no message save one of hate. Her voice is raided only against the principles of organized or-ganized government. She appeals only to the vicious vi-cious and most debased instincts and incites the low-browed to outlawry,' to killing and destruction. The United States is no place for this woman, if indeed there is a place in all the world for her. I She pretends to represent the workir.gnien. and de-J de-J votes her energies to spreading discontent anion;; them by vicious misstatements of alleged persecutions. perse-cutions. No matter what may be the condition of the laboring people of other countries, in America they number 10 to 1 of the total population, and they not only have a vyice in the governmental policies pol-icies of the nation, but they exercise their constitutional consti-tutional rights P prerogatives. We know that the. perfect idealism for which a free people strive has not been attained, but the nation is young yet, and anarchy is as old as Adam and Cajn. The Goldman woman represents the brutality of the lowest elements ele-ments of humanity, not in any effort to elevate, but to slir to activity a hatred which is as unwarranted as was that which brought about the crucifixion. The people .of the United States do not want that sort in this land. The laws of the country have been framed to keep them out. This notorious woman left this country once, and she should not have been allowed to re-enter it. That she has done so is cause for criticism of the federal government's govern-ment's department of immigration or the laws I which control it. But having landed, no time should be wasted in bringing the power of the law down upon her and deporting her to her native shores. Freedom, a free people and a free government, govern-ment, can be maintained only by enforcing a decent respect for the laws which guarantee that freedom. |
