Show Veteran Sailor Now Retired. Rear Admiral Henry S. Lyon, hero of the Samoan disaster' in 18S9, victim of three wrecks, and veteran of the civil civ-il and Spanish wars, was recently retired re-tired and settled down to a humdrum life in the little village of Paris, Me. The law says that the retiring age in the navy is 62. though physically the admiral is as good as ever, and has as fine a stock of nautical knowledge. and experience as any man living. When given shore duty it was largely as an ordnance officer or inspector of ordnance, ord-nance, torpedoes and small arms, regarding re-garding which he is a recognized expert. |
