Although the House of Representatives were grinding out bills to be sent to the Senate for action, the upper house had only acted on one bill as compar- ed with 12 by the representatives. Two bills changing the system sys-tem of bookkeeping in the state auditor's office unanimously passed the house under suspension suspen-sion of rules yesterday and were sent to the senate. The bills, drawn by Auditor Wright, were in his words, "necessary for the best efficiency." A bill is now pending in the house which would make stealing automobiles for a ,"joy ride" a fel ony. At present such an offense is a misdemeanor. BOISE, Ida. The Idaho State Grange has opened headquarters in Boise, planning to introduce a series se-ries of bills sponsored by that organization or-ganization at the present session of the- legislature. They endorse an adequate appropriation ap-propriation to Public Utilities Commission to permit it to fight for just freight rates; conservation legislation; the strengthening of liquor control laws; an adequate weed control con-trol program; Bangs disease program; the blanket primary law; removal of all state "trade barriers"; amendment of farm truck license act to permit freer use to farmers of farm trucks; and expansion of farm-to-market road program. They oppose repeal of mine license li-cense tax; any form of sales tax; any increased appropriations for higher education; and legalized gambling or retail sale of liquor. BOISE. Ida Two bills passed in rapid fire order at the opening of legislative sessions. One was appropriation of $035,000 for three months' public assistance, and the other appropriating $78,040 for expenses of the) legislature. BOISE, Ida Governor Clark's bill to abolish the state insurance commission and replace it with a manager was introduced into the House of Representatives this week. Similar bills which would abolish the liquor commission, tax eommis. sion, and call for a general reorganization reor-ganization of the department Of public welfare are in the hands of committees. |
