Show Potato And Onion Promotions The Idaho advertising commission announced this week of a special promotion on Gem State potatoes and onions, both in Idaho and in the eastern and midwestern consumer markets. January 17 to 25 are the dates. In spite of strenuous objections on the part of numerous growers in the state, the advertising-commission advertising-commission was created, a couple of years back and a special advertising levy placed on shipments of potatoes and onions. In the past two years this-commission this-commission has made deep in-roads into the larger consumer markets of the nation in behalf of these two popular Idaho products, and as a result the objections ob-jections to the tax'has grown feebler and feebler, for it stands to reason that a greater demand for Idaho potatoes and onions can be created, better prices will prevail. It was! heartening to note that during the past fevj weeks, several farmer organizations in the spud and cotton growing areas have placed their endorsement en-dorsement on a continuation of the program. In, our opinion, the promotional commission is not only a good idea, but its successes should point out the advisability of advertising other Idaho products prod-ucts in a similar manner. Idaho has a great deal to shout about in agricultural products. Idaho; dairy products are the best in the world, and her beef, lambs and hogs can command top prices anywhere. A step forward has been taken In advertising Idaho Ida-ho as a tourist attraction for its scenic beauty through the Idaho Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Idaho Hotel association, and the Union Pacific through Sun Valley, but all work on this is in the preliminary stages, yet as) a result Idaho had the best tourist year in its history last year. It looks like 1941 would be a good time for Idahoans to talk about expanding the advertising program. |
