Show Water Meters Are Placed on Main St. During the past ten days a crew of workmen, under the supervision of R. L. Tollestrup, city water-master, have placed and connected some fifteen fif-teen water meters with the business houses along Main street. Before the task of completing the job is reached, some twenty-five new meters will have been installed, and then the entire en-tire city will be under the meter system. sys-tem. Complaint had been registered with the city council by residential water users that business houses were being favored, and to avoid this nuisance the program of installing the new meters has been started. Approximately 15 new meters have now been placed in front of business houses on Main street, between Center Cen-ter and First South streets. When a few more are connected, the work will be continued as far south as the Rosenvall garage. Location of the connecting pipe leading to the buildings build-ings has sometimes met with difficulty, difficul-ty, due to the incomplete surveys and the blueprints, which were made mr.ny years ago. However, all have been located and meters have boon installed. Each meter is set in a cement conduit, con-duit, with cement and iron cappings, thus making access to the meters easily eas-ily available for readings, which are made every two months. Generally speaking, the meter system sys-tem in the residential section of the city has proven highly satisfactory. More care has been exercised by users so that few reach the maximum allowed. |
