Will Name CandidatesSaturday With the republican county convention conven-tion but two days off, the political pot throughout the county has already al-ready commenced to "simmer" and indications are that the session at Ephraim Saturday will be enlivened by some real battles for the nominations nomina-tions of the respective offices. One 4-year commissioner, a 2-year commissioner, com-missioner, a county attorney and two representatives will be placed in nomination for the November 8 election. elec-tion. This office, it is said, is being sought by Gunnison and MantL Junius Metcalf, Met-calf, present chairman of the board, has announced his candidacy for reelection, re-election, and he is going into the convention with a strong following from all parts of the county. He is completing his sixth year and his administration ad-ministration has been one of excellence. excel-lence. The commissionership is the only office that will be asked for by the Gunnison valley district. Alex Barton of Manti, it is reported, report-ed, is being groomed for the nomination nomina-tion of the 4-year term of commissioner, commis-sioner, and will be the only opponent, so far as is known, against Mr. Metcalf. A fight is likely to come up for the attorneyship. Udell Jensen, filling the unexpired term of C. M. Edwards, Ed-wards, has announced his candidacy. Stanley Johnson, residing at Ephraim, Eph-raim, the home town of Jensen, has also declared he will ask for the nomination nom-ination as county attorney. At the primary held at the city hall Saturday evening, six delegates were chosen to attend the republican convention con-vention to be held at Ephraim next Saturday at ten o'clock. The delegates . are June Metcalf, B. A. Madsen, A. M. Peterson, Reuben Christensen, C. H. Childs and D. E. Borg. Alternates selected were D. H. Whittenburg, Lester Les-ter Jepson, Mayor J. S. Peterson, H. A. Kearns, Geo. Pickett and Hyrum Christiansen. The delegates will go uninstructed, but the major portion will back Metcalf for the commissioner's commission-er's job. A reorganization of the Gunnison republican precinct was effected by the election, of D. H. Whittenburg as chairman, succeeding B. A. Madsen. C. H. Childs was again chosen as the permanent secretary-treasurer. Republicans of Centerfield have selected se-lected Hart J. Sanders and Roy Tuft as delegates to the convention, with Chaa. C. Nielson as alternate. |
