Show """JW1 1 " 1 .1 -I 1- I GUNNISON VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL I NOTES Helen Pierce, Reporter Assemblies. An assembly was given Wednesday, March 6, under the direction of the freshmen class. Margie Beck and Er-da Er-da Hill gave humorous readings. Wanda Mae Jensen played a piano solo, and the Centerfield public school band played three selections under the direction of Mr. Harris. The assembly as-sembly which was given at Manti last Friday was presented to the students stu-dents here Thursday in the auditorium. auditor-ium. A charming doll dance was given giv-en by the "Ziegfeld Follies Girls," the name adopted by some of our sophomore sopho-more physical education girls. Boyd Nielson, pasing as Paderewski, played a piano solo. We were also visited by the comedians, Lum and Abner, in the form of Jay Roper and LaMar Larson. Lar-son. Kate Smith and Grace Moore, Pauline and June, you know, rendered a vocal duet. Paul Whiteman and Jan Garber were very well imitated by Allen Frandsen and Lloyd Nielson playing a cornet duet. In addition to these parts a dance by Dorothy and Louine Borg and songs by the Cowboys Cow-boys were given at Manti. Lyceum Feature. A special lyceum number will be given at the Gunnison Valley high school on March 20. This feature, presented pre-sented by the Haydn Ensemble, is a program Of exceptional music, full of I variety and novelty. It will consist of violin, piano and vocal selections, and also dancing. Oratorical Contest. Ralph Britsch, of the faculty, is sponsoring an oratorical contest for the students of the school who are interested in such activities. He is offering $5.00 for the winning oration ora-tion and $2.00 for second place. The oration may be on any subject relating relat-ing to the constitution. The material must be original and all quotations acknowledged. The time limit is eight minutes to and including ten minutes. The date for the contest has not yet been definitely set. New CharacTers. Due to the inability of some of the members of the opera, "Betty Lou," to continue with their work, some new members have been chosen. Oscar Beck will take the part of Joe, and John Westenscow has been cast as Tony. |
