Show Smallpox Case Alarms Citizens Throngs of school children and citizens, both in Gunnison and Centerfield, Cen-terfield, numbering close to 300, have besieged the doctors during the past week, seeking vaccination as a preventative pre-ventative from smallpox. The scare which brought the many hundreds to the realization that they be immune from the dread malady was brought about with the development of a real case in Centerfield. Dean Bardsley, son of Vearl Bard-sley, Bard-sley, it is reported, returned lately from a trip to Idaho. Last Friday night, while attending the picture show, he complained of being ill. He went to his home and Saturday he developed a genuine case of smallpox. small-pox. Dr. Hagan, local health officer, was called to the Bardsley home, and after a close diagnosis, psonounced his ailment as being smallpox. The Bardsley home was immediately quarantined, and the patient kept apart from the members of the family. fam-ily. His condition now, however, is proving satisfactorily, but the patient will necessarily be confined until the quarantine is lifted. While there was exposure while the young man was at the picture show, now new cases are expected to develop de-velop until the latter part of this week, and then it is not certain the germ was spread. Anyone having symptoms, however, are urged to keep away from gatherings, gather-ings, and the first thought must be the calling of a physician to determine deter-mine whether sickness may be caused from smallpox or some other ailment. ail-ment. If this practice is carried out, there will be little cause for alarm. |
