Show Fourth of July Is Fittingly Observed If the weather man had shown a little mercy and tempered the soaring soar-ing humidity Independence day, the celebration would have rounded out one hundred per cent. However, the extreme hot . weather during the early morning and afternoon, did but little to check the determination to make the celebration a success and the day rounded out with a joyful joy-ful and delightful time for the home folks and the visitors. ' When the early dawn salute was sounded celebrators prepared for the big day and ' by nine o'clock the streets swarmed -with happy -boys and girls and men and women. The opening number on the program was the program at the Casino theater. The Patriotic songs, readings and instrumental in-strumental numbers, proved of much interest. Conrad Frischknecht, orator ora-tor of the day, gave a masterly talk. He reviewed the early history of the observance of Independence day, leading his hearers from the time of the signing of the Declaration of Independence In-dependence up to the present. He touched upon crime as compared with early history and that of today, and deplored the fact that justice was not meted out as it was in the early days. Mr. Frischknecht made reference refer-ence to the dastardly crime commit-ed commit-ed near Gunnison last January and condemned the system now in vogue in letting criminals and murderers off with almost freedom. The afternoon races, the childrens dance and the concluding number at night, a gorgeous display of fireworks fire-works at night, concluded one of the best celebrations staged in Gunnison for several years. |
