Show Lions Boosting Swimming Pool Civic improvements and the promotion promo-tion of enterprises that will greatly benefit Gunnison city, are to be foremost fore-most in the major activities of the Gunnison Lions club. This was the firm stand taken at the weekly luncheon-meeting- held last Wednesday. The paramount issue was a plan for sponsoring a public swimming pool for this city. The plan has been, several sev-eral times in the past, a subject of much discussion but never was real effort put forth. D. H. Whittenburg, chairman, Leo D. Bardsley and Dr. G. Stanford Rees, comprising the major ma-jor activities committee of the local Lions club, following a Jengthy discussion, dis-cussion, were instructed to "start the ball rolling" towards establishing the public swimming pool. This committee, it was announced following the meeting, meet-ing, was instructed to get in touch with the head of the Reconstruction Finance corporation of Utah, and put in a bid for a portion of the monies that Utah will share in for creating work in the commonwealth. Utah, as announced from federal headquarters, is to get $2,000,000 of the $300,000,000 that has been appropriated ap-propriated by congress for relief and relief work funds. A portion of the Utah allottment will be sought with the object of relieving the unemployment unemploy-ment situation in Gunnison and for the purpose of establishing the swimming swim-ming pool. President Rasmussen, taking tak-ing the movement now under way, has asked that many more activities be sponsored by the local club and likely other such moves will be started.
