Show Plans for Monuments Laid Before Congress Final plans of the American Legion Battle Monuments commission towards marking the battlefields abroad and commemorating the activities of American Amer-ican troops overseas have been laid before congress, according to legislative legisla-tive officials of the American Legion In Washington. The plans call for beautlfication of the American cemeteries, commemorative commemora-tive monuments to the members of all American organizations which partlcl pated In the major American operations, opera-tions, historical monuments to record Important operations of American divisions, di-visions, a monument at home to commemorate com-memorate the activities of the army and naval forces of the United States in Italy and surrounding waters, erection erec-tion of tablets to mark locations of headquarters of the American expeditionary expedi-tionary force and two memorials and three monuments to commemorate naval activities. The commission contemplates the expenditure ex-penditure of $3,000,000 to carry out Its plans. The Legion has taken a leading part In the work of the commission since It was created by act of congress In 1922. Several Legionnaires are on the commission, com-mission, Including Gen. John J. Pershing, Per-shing, chairman; and Thomas W. Miller, Mil-ler, president of the Fidac, organization organiza-tion of lnter-allied veterans. |
