Show Apostle Ballard In Brilliant Talk Declaring that all nations and particularly par-ticularly the nation in which we are living, were declining at a rapid rate 'through unusual practives, and urging urg-ing for a higher education that these conditions may be overcome, Apostle Mclvin J. Ballard of Salt Lake City, who gave the baccalaureate sermon to the high school graduating class, delivered one of the most interesting and educational addresses heard in the valley for some time. Apostle Ballard did not mince his words and backed his assertions with facts of history that are to be found daily throughout the United States. One of the largest crowds yet assembled as-sembled at the high school auditorium auditor-ium greeted the eloquent speaker and throughout his entire discourse his hearers were held in rapt attention. Apostle Ballard gave several instances instan-ces that substantiated his assertions that we, as a nation, were declining and that the United States was foremost fore-most in crime, the use of opiates and other unusual practices. If the present pres-ent stride is kept up, the speaker declared, de-clared, this nation would sink to- the lowest point. The epidemic of crime throughout the larger centers, the dis regard for the laws of the nation, the immoral conditions and many other matters were referred to as the cause of the decline of the country. Higher education and the right moral training and practices and the respect for the laws were given as the principal fighting ammunition with which to stem the downward trend. He urged his listeners to heed the conditions more seriously and commended the graduates for the honor that was to come to them when they were given their diplomas of graduation. The high school chorus and orchestra orches-tra gave several selections and each number received warm applause of the vast assemblage. |
