Show THE FARMER BOY'S EDUCATION During a recent meeting of teachers teach-ers at a western college there was a little cropping out again of the idea that the way to keep young people on the farm is to change their education edu-cation so early and so completely that they will be fitted for nothing but a farming vocation. Simmered down to its real meaning, the sub-Stance sub-Stance of the argument is that . if they have not an education which will enable them to do anything else but farm, they will not try to do anything any-thing else. But an average Gunnison Gunni-son man knows, and it ought to be generally known over tha country that boys and girls born on the farm today are not going to be neld there by putting an educational ball and chain on their legs. If the brighter minds among them are to be devoted devot-ed to the task of bringing American agriculture out of its present difficulties, diffi-culties, it must be from choice, not from the necessity forced upon them by a limitation of their education. And still more, the problems of the present-day agriculture will not yield their solution to men and women so narrowly educated that they could not successfully take up some' other calling besides farming. |
