Show Local Candy Co. Enlarges Plant Through the activities of the Elite Candy company, of which Adolph Peterson is manager, Gunnison can soon boast of one of the best and largest candy factories south of Salt Lake City. The company .'recently leased the old postoffice building just north of the J. C. Penney store and many wonderful changes have ,been made and new and modern candy machinery added and the equipment now compares with the best used in the larger factories of the cities. The entire building is being utilized utiliz-ed for the several departments required re-quired in the manufacture of candy on a large scale. The boiling room, the cooling and wrapping rooms and supply storage departments have been remodeled and made convenient for the wholesale manufacture of candies can-dies of all kinds. Frank Sprague, one of the best known candy makers in the west, and who has worked in all of the larger 'factories from coast to coast, is in charge of the candy making. The News man was accorded the pleasure of visiting the factory Tuesday and was piloted through the large establishment estab-lishment by Mr. Sprague. The company com-pany has a large ice plant and two large refrigerators are maintained. The refrigerators are to be used for cooling and dipping. Not alone will the ice plant be operated to make it convenient for the manufacture of candies, but the ice will be manufactured manufac-tured for commercial purposes and be sold to the public. The ice plant will be operated night and day and will have a capacity of producing four tons a day. Many new pats necessary for the manufacturing of high grade candies have alredy been installed and others ,are now on the way from the fac- tory. A new machine for the making mak-ing of marshmellows, as well as the 'other necessary equipment, is on the way from the factory and when it all has been installed, Gunnison can be justly proud to boast of a high-class high-class candy manufacturing institution. institu-tion. Mr. Peterson announced that arrangements ar-rangements were being made to manufacture man-ufacture of soda water and to this end plans are being made to install a modern plant for this purpose. Some ten employes are now engaged at the plant and by fall it is expected the number will be increased to twen 'ty-five or more. |
