Show MORE TAX CUT PLANS Recommendations for (a. decrease in the public revenues by the reduction re-duction of some tax rates and the elimination of others, continue to pour in. A recent recommendation put forth by Representative Bach-arach, Bach-arach, of New Jersey would cut the nation's revenues $235,000,000 which is a sizeable sum. Congressman Barcharach recommends recom-mends thae elimination of the taxes on automobiles and accessories, on motor boats, jewelry, club dues, and on amusements admissions of iess than $1.50. He would reduce the inheritance in-heritance or estate taxes to a maximum maxi-mum of twenty per cent, applied to estate only of $100,000 or over and would make a similar reduction of the gift tax. All this would total a reduction of $135,000,000. In addition the congressman believes be-lieves that the maximum surtax pught to be twenty per cent, applied, ap-plied, to incomes of $15,000 or over. Just how much this would reduce the revenue is a matter dispute among the experts. Mr. Bacharach asserts also that constant tinkering with the revenue laws upsets business busi-ness and he would frame a more permanent per-manent law, one which would last during the lifetime of the the administration admin-istration at least. No seventh son of a seventh son can of course predict just what reductions re-ductions will finally be effected in the next revenue law. The more the better, however. It is g'ood to know, at any rate that there will be anoher substantial cut in the taxes when Congress1 meets next winter. |
