Show WHO WOULD GET THE WORST OF IT "Our profits would increase $1 2,000,000 a year if we could gl the American sugar tariff removed," says the president of a gre t sugar corporation. The profits would be derived at the expense of the American sugar beet growers who have been using their farms and their lab r on a crop that pays them, that builds up home industries of eveiy kind, that insures the nation against foreign monopoly. Once the American sugar industry was destroyed, the Cuban corporation might form a combine with other foreign sugar-makers to mal e American sugar prices as they were during the war five times the price at which sugar now sells to the1 American buyer, but not a penny going to the American producer because there would be ro such producer left. Occasionally a farmer breaks out with the cry that the tariff is a burden and not a boost to his industry. Lucifer, not satisfied with the order in Heaven, went off to start a hell wj ere he could theorize without restraint. But every evidence is that he gave himself him-self the worst of it! |
