Show Fire Fighters Gain Ground Missoula, Mont. Flames which ate their way across thousands of acres destroying rich timber stands and consuming ranch houses in the forests of western Montana, northern Idaho and eastern Washington, have been brought under control, District Forester Forest-er Fred Morrell announced Thursday. While no further call as been made for adidtional fighters, the hundreds of men on the front have not relaxed their vigil and are alert to check any new outbreaks. An airplane flight over the Hay Creek fire on the Black-foot Black-foot forest indicated that the flames were not spreading, Morrell said. Eleven- miles of trenches surround the fire. The Kaniksu conflagration also is reported to be well within control lines. |
