Show Ccnterfietd Slages Grand Celebration The soventy-ninth anniversary of Uio landing of the Mormon pioneers in Utah was fittingly celebrated at Centerfield last Saturday. With a splendid day and with a large and happy crowd the celebration was a huge success throughout and it will go down in memory as one of the best ever held to commemorate the 24th of July. The festivities started shortly af-i af-i ter three o'clock Saturday morning : with a salute, and later was followed follow-ed by raising the flag. The girls' glee club then took up the spirit ond many homes were visited where choruses were sung. Before nine o'clock crowds thronged the streets in preparation for the big parade and to enjoy the fine and appropriate program. The program was given at the "bowery built especially for the occasion. Historical addresses, songs, recitations, readings comprised compris-ed the program and this number proved a feature of the clay. During the afternoon the children's chil-dren's dance and a sports program occupied much of the time and the throngs enjoyed these to the fullest limit. A "kangaroo" court was maintained maintain-ed and many were caught in the meshes of the law for infringing on the strict rules of the day. J. H. Simonsen acted as a judge and very little leniency was shown by the stern jurist. And Hans K. Hansen, serving as constable, together with his deputies, were kept busy rounding round-ing up the delinquents and a sum total of more than $17 was collected in two-bit fines, the mimimum assessed as-sessed by the presiding "kangaroo" judge . . All together the celebration was a splendid success and the committees having the affair in charge were given giv-en due credit for their efforts. |
