Show Carl A. Modeen Is Suddenly Called Carl August Modeen, a resident of Gunnison for the past forty-six years, died at the home of his both-' both-' er, Axoll Modeen, where he was taken tak-en Thursday of last week, Tuesday night at nine thirty. Death was the result of systemic poisoning, which caused many complications. Mr. Mo-doon, Mo-doon, although in poor health for many years past, was able to be around and attend his daily duties. Some few weeks ago his malady be-.came be-.came more aggravated and his health began to fail. Thursday of Inst week he was taken to the home of his brother and he grew gradually worse and Tuesday night he answer ed the final call to the great; beyond. Carl Modeen was a native of Sweden, Swe-den, having been born at Porstil December De-cember 30, 1871. In 1880 he came to America with his parents and settled set-tled in Gunnison, which place he had made his home continuously since. On November 21, 1900, he was married mar-ried to Sarah Thunnison. Eight years later Mrs. Modeen passed away and since that time Mr. Mo- dcen had lived alone. No children were born to the union and the survivors sur-vivors of Carl Modeen are three brothers, Axel Modeen and Andrew Modeen of this city, Albert Modeen of Tonopah, Nevada, and one sister, Mrs. C. H. Hart of Bingham. Carl Modeen followed the vocation of farming the early part of his life and later took up photographing and during the past several years he combined the two, working at intervals inter-vals at each vocatiorl. He was a member of the Mormon church, having hav-ing joined when but a young man. He was widely known throughout the valley and the southern section and was highly respected and admired admir-ed by all. Funeral services will be held tomorrow to-morrow (Friday) afternoon, from the Gunnison Valley high school at 2 o'clock. Mrs. C. H. Hart, accompanied accom-panied by Mr. Hart, came down from Bingham yesterday in answer to the message announcing the death. Nothing has as yet been heard from the brother in Nevada, but more than likely he will arrive in time to attend the funeral services tomorrow. |
