Show Rabid Dogs Are Killed In Valley Residents of Gunnison and more particularly the residents of Clarion and West View are cautioned to be on the lookout for dogs infected with rabies. A dog belonging to Claud Michelson, the sheepman, which wan killed last week when it showed decided de-cided signs of the rabies, was in this city a few days before the animal was killed, and while no evidence is at hand to show that the infected animal ani-mal bit any other dog, all are reminded re-minded to beware of strange acting animals. .Mr. Michelson informed The News man the first of the week that a coyote, acting strangely and giving every, sign of being infected with, the rabies, visited his place of the west side of the valley some six weeks'-ago." It fo-ught with the Michelson Mich-elson dogs and both' the dogs were bitten. Little thought was given at the ime, however, and later when the coyote appeared at another farm house, acting the same strange way, it was killed. ' ; A. close watch was kept on the Michelson dogs and a month later one Of them went mad. It bit several sev-eral chickens and a pig before it was killed. Last week the other animal developed the rabies and it was killed. The hog which was bitten by the infected dog has been confined in a pen by itself and developments are being watched. , None of the heads of the animals have been sent to the state officials at Salt Lake for an examination, ex-amination, but Mr. Michelson and others who have seen the animals are confident that it was rabies. |
